On April 15, 2012, Lisa Guernsey was part of an invited symposium at the annual meeting of the American Educational Research Association in Vancouver, Canada. Her presentation, "Watching Teachers Work: What Teacher Observation Methods Mean for Policy and Practice," discussed the current context of heated debates over how to measure effective teaching and explained the role of new classroom-based tools for observing how teachers teach children in the early years and early grades -- how they interact with students, extend learning opportunities and introduce new concepts in engaging ways.
The talk was based on a paper co-authored by Guernsey and Susan Ochshorn, founder of ECE Policy Works in New York, titled Watching Teachers Work: Using Observation Tools to Promote Effective Teaching in the Early Years and Early Grades.
