Lisa Guernsey spoke at a symposium at the Erikson Institute on March 31, 2011 on the landscape of education reform in the context of the early grades of elementary school (including pre-k). The half-day symposium, "Exploring PreK-3rd Grade: A Dialogue on Educational Reform," was hosted by the New Schools Project and the Herr Research Center for Children and Social Policy.
Guernsey's talk provided a birds-eye view of where and how changes are occurring across the United States with an emphasis on "PreK-3rd" alignment strategies underway in many jurisdictions. She also presented an analysis of the federal government's role so far and the multiple funding streams that have the potential to be tapped for efforts to align programs from birth up through third grade.
