Setting the Stage: PreK-3rd at the Federal and National Level

Presented at NAEYC 2010
November 10, 2010 |

On November 3, 2010, Lisa Guernsey of the Early Education Initiative gave a presentation at the annual meeting of the National Association for the Education of Young Children in Anaheim, Calif. Her remarks were part of a three-hour forum titled, "Bridging the divide between pre-K and K-3 to ensure long-term school and program success," hosted by Cheryl Roberts, for the Source for Learning, Inc.

In her presentation, Lisa focused on progress that has been made at the federal level related to education reforms that span from the pre-kindergarten years up through third grade. She also presented a picture of the state of federal funding over the past three years -- both through the lens of the more traditional "birth-to-age-5" construct of early childhood education and the more research-based view of early childhood stretching from "birth-through-age-8."
