WASHINGTON, DC - The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget (CRFB) today kicks off its campaign to urge the 2012 presidential candidates to devote one of the three debates scheduled for this fall entirely to the issue of the unsustainable national debt. As part of the effort, CRFB launched www.DebateTheDebt.org as a place where concerned citizens can learn more and lend their support.

Washington D.C. - The New America Foundation today announced the launch of its Open Technology Institute [OTI], whose mission is to convene the nation's best thinking about Internet freedom and open technology.

Building on New America's work in this field, OTI will serve as a hub of impartial research, open discourse, innovative fieldwork, and new tech development.

The 3.4 percent interest rate on federal Subsidized Stafford student loans is scheduled to expire in July and double to 6.8 percent. The White House has made a one-year extension of the rate a central policy and campaign issue. Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has also endorsed an extension, but Congress is still considering the proposal.

The New America Foundation’s Open Technology Initiative (OTI) convened a panel of researchers this week to present new findings about the troubling persistance of the digital divide in Philadelphia, and to discuss ways to address this problem. This research suggest that half of households in Philadelphia may not have broadband access — one of the 10 lowest subscription rates among cities nationwide.

Leaders in Medicine and Health Care Tackle Overtreatment
